Drink Recipes: Hocus Pocus Cocktails

These cocktails are more than just a bunch of hocus pocus.

This spooky season, we have gathered up our favorite Hocus Pocus-inspired cocktails for you to try. These cocktails are the perfect addition to your next Disney Halloween movie marathon, but you better make them soon so you don’t have to wait 300 more years. We’ve curated one cocktail for each Sanderson sister, so make sure to try them all and pick your favorite — just maybe don’t let the sisters know which one you like the best.

Green Hocus Pocus Cocktail | Winifred Sanderson

Winifred Sanderson cocktail

Yields 2 cocktails

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ ounces pineapple juice

  • 1 ½ ounces orange juice

  • 1 ½ ounces rum

  • ½ ounce apple cider

  • ½ ounce blue Curaçao

  • ½ teaspoon edible silver glitter

  • Ice

  • Cocktail shaker

Instructions:

  1. Fill your glass with ice.

  2. Add all the ingredients to a cocktail shaker.

  3. Shake to combine.

  4. Pour the drinks over ice and enjoy!

Takeaway:

This was my favorite drink out of the three Hocus Pocus cocktails because it had a strong pineapple flavor that gave it a nice tropical vibe. It turned out to be a sparkly sage green color that was so beautiful. The original recipe called for apple brandy but we used apple cider and more rum instead, and it turned out really well.

Purple Hocus Pocus Cocktail | Sarah Sanderson

Yields 1 cocktail

Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces Empress Gin (or any gin with purple food coloring added)

  • 1 ounce blue Curaçao

  • 1 ounce lemon juice

  • Soda water

  • Crushed ice

Instructions:

  1. Fill your glass with crushed ice.

  2. Add the blue Curaçao first.

  3. Next, add the lemon juice. Make sure to pour gently to let the ingredients layer (tip: pour over the back of a spoon to avoid mixing).

  4. Then add the gin.

  5. Top with the soda water and enjoy!

Takeaway:

This drink looks really pretty layered, but I would recommend stirring it together before drinking unless you like the taste of gin. Since the blue Curaçao and lemon juice are at the bottom of the drink, you don’t get much of the flavor when drinking it layered. Although stirring this drink does turn it a bright blue color, you can add a drop of red food coloring to get more of a purple shade after stirring.

Orange Hocus Pocus Cocktail | Mary Sanderson

Mary Sanderson cocktail

Yields 1 cocktail

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ ounces rum

  • 1 ½ ounces cranberry juice

  • ½ ounce simple syrup

  • ½ ounce orange juice

  • Champagne

  • Additional simple syrup for dipping the rim of the glass

  • Orange sanding sugar

  • Cocktail shaker

Instructions:

  1. Dip the rim of your glass in simple syrup, then in the orange sanding sugar.

  2. Add ice to your cocktail shaker.

  3. Next, add the cranberry juice, orange juice, simple syrup, and rum to the cocktail shaker and shake until chilled.

  4. Strain the mixture into the rimmed glass.

  5. Top with champagne and enjoy!

Takeaway:

This drink was delicious! It comes out the perfect orange color for a Halloween drink and having the orange sanding sugar on the rim is a great pairing. You could also make this cocktail with vodka instead of rum if you prefer.
