Drink Recipe: Oga's Cantina Hyperdrive (Punch it!)
Updated: May 7, 2023
A non-alcoholic cocktail that even Han Solo would like.
Remember when Han Solo made the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs? This is the drink that he had before making that run.
Okay, just kidding. However, I’m convinced that if he had this mocktail, he would love it. So here’s how you make the infamous Hyperdrive (Punch it!) from Oga’s Cantina in Galaxy’s Edge.
Hyperdrive (Punch it!)
Recipe by: Chip & Company
Yields 2 mocktails
Ingredients:
Mocktail:
½ cup white cranberry juice
1 cup Sprite
Compote Garnish:
½ cup granulated sugar
½ cup black cherries, pitted and quartered
1 tablespoon lemon juice
Instructions:
Compote:
In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar, black cherries, and lemon juice.
Bring to a boil, then remove from heat.
Blend the puree cherry mixture until it looks like soupy jam.
Cover and chill for at least 1 hour, but for best results, overnight.
Drink:
Pour ice into two glasses.
Add Sprite, then white cranberry juice, and finally Powerade.
Scoop 1 tablespoon of black cherry puree gently on top of ice in each glass.
Enjoy!
Takeaway:
If I’m being honest, the mocktail was mid. It was sweet, which I usually like, but it was very Powerade heavy. I also used the order Powerade, Ocean’s Spray White Cran-Strawberry juice, and then Sprite, and avoided the compote altogether and made a purple sugar rim instead. So do with that what you will.
I also wanted to modify it to see how this drink would taste as a cocktail. I tried 1-2 ounces of Tito’s and it was okay but not anything to write home about. But then I added 1-2 ounces of Limoncello Liqueur, and that transformed this drink for me. Something about the extra lemon really brought out the best flavors of the juices in the punch. I drank two immediately and then another the next day.
The non-alcoholic Hyperdrive would be the perfect addition to a kid’s Star Wars-themed birthday party, while the alcoholic version would be beloved by the adults attending that party. Or those that want to listen to Cantina lofi and vibe on a Friday night as I did.
They even make non-alcoholic limoncello if you would prefer the flavor without the alcohol!
