Chocolate Chip Mickey Mouse Scones with Dove Chocolate
Yields 1 serving
Ingredients:
2 cups flour
½ cup sugar
½ teaspoon salt
2 ½ teaspoons baking powder
½ cup unsalted butter, frozen
1 egg
½ cup heavy cream
1 ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
1 - 1 ½ cups chocolate chips
1 bag of Dove chocolates
Instructions:
Scones:
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder.
Grate the frozen butter stick into the mixture.
Mix together with your hands and set aside once it’s slightly clumpy.
For the wet ingredients, crack one egg into another bowl. Add the heavy cream and vanilla.
Whisk together until smooth.
Drizzle the wet mixture into the larger bowl with the dry ingredients.
Add the chocolate chips. Measure with your heart but we will add more chocolate later.
Mix together with your hands.
Sprinkle flour on a clean surface and pour the mixture from the bowl onto it. Mold into a ball as best as you can.
Once in a ball shape, press together with the palm of your hand to spread it out into a circle about 1 inch in thickness.
Use your Mickey Mouse-shaped cookie cutter to cut out the shape in the dough. Our dough made about 4 with extra so we combined into a smaller circle and made a fifth from the excess. Pro tip: Be careful not to overwork the dough!
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place your scones on it.
Brush with a little bit of heavy cream.
Place the scones in the fridge for 15 minutes (If you have the time!).
Preheat the oven to 400ºF.
Bake for 20-25 minutes until the edges are golden brown.
Ensure they are thoroughly cooled before making the Dove Chocolate Drizzle!
Dove Chocolate Drizzle:
While the scones are baking, unwrap around 12 Dove chocolates.
Add the chocolates to the top of a double boiler over medium heat. Get the water to a light simmer, just enough so that the chocolates start melting. Stir until fully melted.
With a spoon, the pan, or pastry piping bags, drizzle the chocolate onto the cooled scones.
Optionally, crush a few more Dove Chocolates and place the chunks on the still warm drizzle and enjoy!
Review:
These turned out just like the ones in Disney World. They also keep for about 2 days at room temperature or 5 days in the fridge which gives you some breathing room if you’re making them for tea or a party. And the Dove chocolate, oh boy is that good!
