Recipe: Loco Hot Cocoa
Just don’t drink this hot chocolate before bed!
Whenever Robby Ray Stewart had a heart-to-heart with Miley on Disney Channel’s Hannah Montana, he’d make her a cup of his famous “Loco Hot Cocoa.”
Little did I know that the reason Miley had whacky dreams was a secret ingredient: instant coffee! Being an avid coffee drinker, I had to try it.
So, ahead of Fa-La-La-Lolidays, here’s our attempt at making Robby Ray’s Famous Loco Hot Cocoa.
Loco Hot Cocoa
Recipe by: Food.com
Yields 1 hot chocolate
Ingredients:
1 cup of milk
2 tablespoons chocolate syrup
1 teaspoon instant coffee
Cinnamon sugar, to taste
Whipped cream, to taste
Instructions:
Pour your milk of choice (we used skim) into a microwave-safe mug.
Add the instant coffee and let it dissolve in the milk.
Add the chocolate syrup.
Microwave for 1 to 2 minutes, based on the desired temperature.
Swirl on some whipped cream.
Sprinkle cinnamon sugar on top.
Enjoy!
Takeaway:
Sweet niblets this is good! I’m not usually a mocha girl, and that’s basically what this recipe is. However, Robby Ray knows best! The instant coffee, which is usually a subpar replacement for regular coffee, compliments the chocolate so well and adds an unexpected kick.
You can always substitute for decaf instant coffee for the kiddos or if you want to have it before bed without bad dreams.
I’m not a huge chocolate person, but I’d recommend adding a bit more chocolate syrup. When the Insta-worthy swirl of whipped cream melts it dilutes the chocolate flavor so you’ll want a little more. Perhaps ½ to 1 full tablespoon more.
