Why The Incredibles is Da Bomb Voyage
Updated: Jan 20, 2022
It’s the best Pixar movie, and you can’t change my mind.
The Incredibles came out in 2004 and I’ve been chasing the feeling I got while watching that movie in every Pixar film since. The Incredibles has everything, it’s witty, funny, tackles real-life problems, and has loads of action.
But really, where else are you going to find a family of superheroes? Marvel could never.
I know the typical answer to “What’s your favorite Pixar movie?” is Toy Story, Ratatouille, Coco, and now even Luca, but I just never loved those movies as much as The Incredibles. Maybe it’s because Pixar usually throws in a hint of sadness in their films, like “When Somebody Loved Me” in Toy Story 2 or literally most of the plot of Inside Out, whereas The Incredibles is just straight comfort — it doesn’t make me want to breakdown into tears, so I can keep watching it.
The Incredibles is also one of those Disney/Pixar movies that brought my family together, one where my dad didn’t fall asleep watching it. Frozone’s “Where’s my supersuit” bit, Edna Mode’s fashion show, and Elastigirl just being a girl boss was something we could all agree on.
And The Incredibles plot was so advanced for a children’s movie. The Elastigirl/Mr. Incredible flirty relationship that goes into a wedding in the beginning? Genius way to introduce characters. The idea that Bob is going to cheat on Helen? Unthinkable. People out to kill children? That’s dark. It makes The Incredibles a movie that I enjoyed at six, but also at 20 — and once you finally understand all the Disney jokes, it gets so much better.
I like to think a movie is really good to get a sequel after 10+ years, and Incredibles 2 certainly did not disappoint. The storyline is just as fun and action-packed, plus you get a little more of Edna and Jack-Jack, which is top tier comedy.
I truly can’t say enough good things about The Incredibles and I definitely can’t say anything bad. I’m not saying it’s the best Pixar movie ever written or created, there are other good ones with good storylines. But it’s certainly my favorite and I will continue to watch it the most.
If you haven’t watched The Incredibles in a while, it’s worth a re-watch now and I’m sure you’ll see where I’m coming from. And if you don’t… well you’re wrong.
